Dom is a painter of vibrant, colourful, abstract images, so I knew that my film with him had to be bright and fun. We began the process by discussing some music  he was producing which was, like his painting, also somewhat abstract. After spending the day filming him in his studio, I spent a while in the edit suite using his music as the basis for my cut. It lent itself beautifully to the film and gave me a reassuring sense of direction. I'm glad I also found a way to incorporate some fragmented visual aesthetics in the film, because a lot of Dom’s paintings are triptychs or grids, and I really wanted to reflect his own style in the final piece.
